The rumors of dissent on the team (stemming from Browner, a guy who hasn’t been on the team in 3 years) did not appreciably hold back the performance in any meaningful way. The defense was quite good after the first four games.

No other coach in the league is getting fired after a 15-4 season and a close loss in the SB, no matter how bad the defense was. Never mind one with Belichick’s track record and as the defending Super Bowl champions.

Again, I simply cannot agree that Belichick would be willing to lose the Super Bowl in order to spite a player or to prove he’s right. I honestly believe they made a misjudgement in which personnel would be best suited to stopping Philly. Do not ascribe to malice that which can be ascribed to stupidity.
