And by cheapskate you mean someone who likes to not get foreclosed on? Ive seen even 2wd semi clean yotas hit 10K up here for some reason.
But then, all truck prices in this area seem to be nuts.

Its pre-97... meaning that snow, paint and hope is holing it together. Once the thaw comes and washes away the rust, only the block and the sagging headliner will be left.
There are a lot of people in our world that have only value for their life and that of their kin.
Ive had them change tracking on me, documented. Their response? “Meh.”
I spent about $20K over the last 2 years shipping with the post office. Guess what, he’s right.
You want accountability and almost guaranteed delivery? FedEx (who also flies packages for USPS Priority overnight)
But filing insurance for package you cant replace is #1.
The guy sounds like my wife’s uncle. At 90, he cant drive, but has a cadillac that he goes out, washes, waxes (takes a while, but he does it) and asks one of us to take it and get inspected, make sure the battery is charged.
Im betting his lack of personal freedom with losing that license was still a sore spot, but in…
I agree.. to a point. Put 9K in a fund, and buy a beater. Learn to wrench, buy Craigslist tools.
Learn about insurance... and all the costs of a car. They are similar across the board, be it a $1000 or a $30,000 car. After that, they are still there, just slightly more.
$10K?
Buy a $500 car, tools, parts to fix it. Stash the rest of the cash in some sort of savings for 2 years, drive the piss out of the beater.
You will be much better off in the long run.
People have no sympathy for the uber driver who wasn’t able to get in the crony system of NYC taxis, but is barely making ends meet, sleeping in parking lots, etc.
Screw those guys, right? Although, Im not sure who Im supposed to call a fascist today, is it a donkey or an elephant?
Oversteer has a lot of interesting articles, just sayin...
I was told by Jalopnik at some point that I could have a crafty hacker gain access to the car via an ipod plugged into the tailpipe.
OK, Would it be worth paying that if standards of living in Mexico went up, or the environmental protection in China came around to our standards?
There is a reason things are cheaper in any places outside of the US. Not all of it, but it is a major component.
There are other factors, like the odd human tendency to turn in towards bright lights of oncoming traffic when blinded. (You know, from all those people who think blue is brighter so it helps them see better)
Hard to kill? Drive it. It will eat starters, and leak from silly places like the drip rails.
And a toyota truck for under 5K? Something about “Truck” when added to Toyota around here (Earth) and 4wd means that the price sits north of sanity.
Cant tell if its satire. Both the Ranger and the Saturn have ticking time bomb transmissions. The Saturn motors all have a horrible defect that causes the oil to no circulate and get blown past the rings, and lead to oil consumption that is somewhere around 30mpg.
And no Jeep Cherokee? Seriously?
Regularly make it to…
I wonder if this will count toward Walmarts stated goal of their set percentage of US made items in their stores?
Although, could get confusing. Honda, made in USA, Ford, made in Canada. Jeep, made in a bar, Alpha Romeo made in a wine factory at nap time.
Its good to buy from your neighbors. We have a glut of people in this country that make non-tangible things. We have a lot of the workforce there just to manage and grow the federal system.
Look at healthcare. Your local doctor’s office has probably 4 nurses on staff that are there merely to deal with paperwork. It…
How about we get the chicken tax repealed? Single line item, repeal it.
No add ons, no extras... no bullshit. No special groups. We need to learn how to be competitive, adn we need to learn how to make things the rest of the world wants to import as badly as we want to import theirs.
Just like a traditional taxi!
