Please do not advocate for the fact that women should expect to be shit on when choosing to study game design. Please do not condone the blatant sexism of "boys will be boys" that exists in gaming. Also, please do not insult that piece of writing, which is very close to my heart. The reasons she did not speak up…
Here is the issue:
Cheers to Kotaku and Stephen for writing all of these pieces. It's clear the commenters on this site will not go easily, but maybe if they read enough of it, they'll stop hissing and start re-thinking. Personally, as someone who was at this conference, I found Killians response that "Japan was a very different place,"…
I thought we'd all established months ago that this game was incredibly sexist? Apparently not. I mean, I'm glad you wrote this, Kirk, but personally I feel like you could've been more direct and just flat-out condemned it.
Frozen Synapse is the perfect Facebook game. Too bad it's not on Facebook.
Hey everyone! So I co-designed a Big Game that will be a part of the Big Games program at IndieCade this year and we are going to playtest it in New York City a few times before the event to refine some new mechanics and rules.
The exhibit was well curated, but I wish that more of the objects were actually interactive. For an exhibit that seems to be promoting interactivity it seemed to be lacking it in obvious places. Little Big Planet 2 and Sleep is Death were both there, but only on monitors looping trailers, not actually playable. The…
The only PS3 game left in my library that I have yet to play is Folklore, so perhaps I'll start that up. Anyone here play Folklore before? Have any thoughts?
Nice, thanks. That's good to know.
This was fantastic, Tim. Really entertaining and well done. I was waiting for your next Kotaku article. The only thing it was missing were jokes about vs. 13, but I guess that's simply too obvious for your subtle wit. Anyways, enjoyed, and looking forward to the next ABDN review.
Nice feature, and a nice sign of maturity from a game company. You know what would be even more impressive though, would be if it was more than just moving the saturation slider down to zero, and the black and white colored mode was painted from the ground up. Perhaps unrealistic to wish for, but it'd be great I bet.
Tried to edit my comment with the image url several times. We'll see if it ever takes. I don't know why I even bother sometimes...

Great write-up Stephen! This was one of the more impressively well-written pieces lately.
@kthe23rd: Don't forget Sakura :)
@Shinta: What are your favorites of the year Shinta? I haven't played that many games released in 2010 so I'd be interested in some of your console (notably Ps3) recommendations since I tend to generally find myself agreeing with your tastes.
You are justified to your opinion, but you can't just label mine as not my own. I wrote it didn't I? I played the entire game didin't I (you can check my gamertag if you want to)? I've also played every other Final Fantasy entry. If other people happen to share my opinions, that doesn't mean it's still not my opinion.…
Honestly Shinta, I agree with you 99% of the time, but Final Fantasy XIII was a huge let down for me. It was a game clearly built from the art assets upwards. And amazing as those art assets were, it showed in a poor story presentation and horribly designed boss battles.
