To be clear - I have never watched an influencer video and I also do not use social media, so this is not my area of expertise. But I do have a job. And I had to sign some stuff to get that job. And every year they send me a new updated version of that stuff to sign to keep my job. I’m pretty sure in that pile of

How hollow are our lives when we are looking to makeup salespeople for guidance?

Wow. Just think, it took 3½ years, but Trump might finally draw a bigger turnout than Obama did.

Maybe he’s going to skulk on over to Melania’s place in Arlington. Won’t that be a nice surprise for her.

I’m sure FuckTrump is spewing all kinds of fucknuttery to make this stop. The demonstration is expected to pull 1 million people out into DC streets this weekend (I’m betting more). I wouldn’t doubt FuckTrump has some plans to head out of town tonight/tomorrow but if no we know he’s gonna be rage tweeting and inspectin

They’re certainly working very hard to support that assessment.

I thought we all agreed the NYT Opinion section was a hot fucking mess to be ignored?

> I’ve never *really* needed the police, so let’s abolish them
But - who will catch the murderous criminals and neighborhood vandals?
> Community outreach will cure those things so they don’t exist.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and suggest you probably live in a safe neighborhood and have never in your life dialed 911.

I agree with your point on media - I also worked in newspapers many lifetimes ago - but as you note, for a piece by an outside contributor like Tom Cotton, not reading prior to publication is raw idiocy.

Having worked in media, I can actually believe he doesn’t read every piece they publish. I’ve known editors who read every single word of their publications before print, and those who focused on the big picture and trusted the senior staff to do their jobs. It varies, and a big daily like the NYT publishes so much

Russian troll trying to make liberals look bad or freeze them into inaction because there’s nothing you could possibly do to avoid criticism?

Why devote 1k+ words on this topic as though it’s some kind of investigative think piece? “BREAKING NEWS: YouTube Influencers are NOT Leading the Revolution!” is a surprise to absolutely nobody.

The paper’s controversial top opinion editor James Bennet issued a mea culpa, claiming he let his section be “stampeded by the news cycle,” and confessed that the backlash had inspired him to rethink the op-ed section entirely.

Just once, I’d like to see a little humility at this site when someone posts something stupid. An acknowledgement, apology, open dialogue? For a site that mercilessly judges everyone else for what they say, how they say it, and/or their silence, it sure does give itself free license concerning its own conduct.

In case anyone missed this detail that emerged this morning:

“Ever hear of Stonewall?”

My constructive criticism is that if you take a thread designed to amplify black voices and needs and promptly start explaining why they are wrong, you do not understand the point. The point is for them to share with us, and for us to listen, not for us to give our perspectives.

Snarking for snark’s sake does not make you cool.

It could not have been more obvious that Ellen Pompeo was speaking rhetorically.

I read what I can on this site every day. Even on the weekends when one person seems to generate 90% of the content.
