A couple years ago my parents got me a couple GelPro mats. One for in front of my prep space and one for in front of the sink. At first I thought they were a silly luxury, but with as much time as I spend in the kitchen, I have grown to love them.

Putting pullouts on most of our cabinet shelves. Lumber and hardware came out to about $15 per pullout, and it was totally worth it.

Microplane - hands down way better than any other grating device you've ever used. The zester is amazing for getting the zest of the lemon (lime, orange etc) without any pith and without any effort - it just doesn't grate pith. amazing! The larger ones are also fantastic.
