The Inquisition was a political tool that used the guise of religion to further the goals of, most infamously, the Spanish Crown. And it really wasn't that bad AT ALL. Protestant writers over-exaggerated the crimes of the Spanish Inquisition in order to demonize the Catholic Church, and I say this as a protestant.
