This is the appropriate way to include alternate sexualities and demographics. They didn’t make a show of it. They didn’t make it obnoxiously obvious. They just gave a subtle hint.
So basically he’s a completely normal character and addition. Not an advertisement or “look we’re so progressive” marketing tool.
I don’t really see any negatives except that it’s a pretty small number of uses when you think of how many matches you can have per day.

I think some players went in with this goal for their first run. I’m sure this guy wasn’t the first to do it.
I doubt he’s the only one to do this. Likely not even the first. There are a lot of Souls fans that do minSL runs and instead just upgrade the weapons.
I had to do this on Demons' Souls when I realized I had spread my levels far too much. Haven't done it in any games since, but I couldn't blame anyone for doing it. I might even do it to buy equipment, but I wouldn't touch my soul level with it.

In FFXIV I find that the worst part of death is that the party never turns itself around. They get more and more reckless with each death despite knowing full well that they have lowered stats from death. Meanwhile the timer ticks away further and further.
