Pretty certain he can’t turn the wheel because the tow strap is wrapped around the tire and pulling from the rear, not because the column locked, or because of a lack of power steering. You can see the strap go slack and then tighten back up as they go around the corner. This appears to be when it goes around the

Between that and the removable roof panel, there’s no reason he couldn’t have escaped. You release the front two latches, and then the single rear. You can then push the roof panel off the car, they probably don’t even weigh 25 pounds.

That is the interior handle. The door has a button.

Manual door release in the same light of sight as the push button. Been the same on both last generation cars. This is why people made fun of you.

Or know where the mechanical release handle is. There are three of them scattered around the cabin.
