Wow - I thought the CVT was the only model offered. Not sure how that slipped by me! The 918 uses a 'similar' (I think) set-up for electrically assisted drive to the rear wheels as the Insight does to its front wheels, but also has a separate system electrically driving the front wheels. That might be a disincentive

The sad thing is, the Carrera GT was the highest rated of the early 2000s supercar crop for sheer ability. evo magazine's recommended supercar entry used to start something like "Since the Carrera GT is no longer available, we recommend..."

I don't think a conventional transmission would be able to juggle the hybrid system. Are there any manual gearbox-equipped hybrids?

Am I the only one wondering just how awesome the Gulf nations would be if they invested their money in things that mattered?

The third-generation MR2 beat the MX-5 (Miata to the Yanks) every time in evo, and so it should, given that you lose any semblance of a boot thanks to the mid-engined layout. In that colour it's the poor man's Porsche Boxster - gorgeous handling, a bit effeminate, less common and more mid-engined than the competition

+1. Drifting's about smooth transitions between abrupt corners. It's spoiled if we never get to see two corners in uninterrupted succession.

When it comes to choosing something lightweight, sporty and open-topped for the summer, between these two I'm going to have to choose...

Why would you weld up a door that already existed? (No Town Car has even been built with only one rear door.) I'm pretty sure that door is there, it's just that the camera has blurred the shutline.

In the same vein, last-generation Volvo V70:

Yeah, Clarkson threw his drink over Morgan midway through the flight. (No, I'm not joking.) Apparently the bad blood started way back when Morgan published articles in the Daily Mirror claiming that Clarkson was committing adultery.

Article says $65k and it doesn't look too recent. Beck should probably divert a few thousand off the next build into a new website, too - corners cut, first impressions and all that.

I was pretty surprised too. Sounds like a guy from the north of England, and he's driving a civilian vehicle, a pickup with a bull-bar and a dog in the rear seat, I think. It's not every day you see a plane fall out of the sky; I would have been losing my mind. This guy seems resigned to it.

The Cosworth was pretty underpowered for its weight if I remember correctly, so dropping it wouldn't be a crime. I like the CLK DTM with (what I assume) is the full DTM kit:

I'd rather get that dude to build me one. I wonder what he'd charge for a complete body-in-white? That shape plus a nice spaceframe with fully adjustable double-As all round... mmm....

A W201 drift car with the Evolution bodykit would be insanely awesome.

With great power comes great expense. A set of new tyres (must change every 2,500 miles)? $37,500. A set of new wheels (must change every three sets of tyres)? $45,000. Day ruined.
