Yea, I wish she had called it out more directly. I mean, why not? Call out the bad actors if you can so we avoid ‘em.

I wonder what the full story is. Why didn’t Versus XIII happen as originally planned?
I’m a bit late to this discussion, but that’s actually why the imported vodkas on the list (mostly) rank higher. The federal production regulations only apply to domestic vodkas, not imported ones. Most imported vodkas are distilled to slightly lower proof, leaving more nuances, and can get away with having a more…
Yea! One other thing that hit me a little while after starting to read it (and I’m still making my way through)—it’s *OK* for some of this stuff to feel hard. I’ve been frustrated before when, say, comforting someone who’s sad or upset, because I don’t always know what to say, it doesn’t come naturally, and it can…
Thank you for sharing this! I am slowly making my way through it, and it’s really valuable and fascinating. It’s like opening up a world of things that I wasn’t really aware of... I mean, I was to some extent, but it sounds like it runs much deeper. The biggest “whoa” moment so far was—oh, being a source of emotional…
Yea, I just spent like an hour and a half reading the Google Doc somebody posted with excerpts from that Metafilter thread. It’s really eye opening. Some of it, I’m like—how did I not know that this was going on? A lot of things I’ve never thought about before, or haven’t thought about in that way. And I’m definitely…
Wait, do some people actually care about thank you cards, or want them? Is that really a thing? I thought it was one of those things we cared about as kids because we were made to, but aren’t actually something real people want....
I think it’s a little psychotic. Why do we help homeless murderers before helping normal people who are down on their luck? These are trained killers!
Oh God. I’m so sorry that happened to you. I hope you were eventually able to recover :(
You’d neeeeeever get rye if you just called out for whiskey. And TN whiskey and Bourbon are virtually the same thing... I think you’d see both in about equal measure (mostly because Jack and Jim Beam are both similarly ubiquitous).
You are not wrong by any means, but I will say that British people in particular almost always refer to Scotch simply as ‘whisky’ and Bourbon as ‘Bourbon.’ So if you are British or come from that background and order whisky at a bar, you might expect that the person understands you mean Scotch.
Oh shit. I missed the part where they fired them all. Guess I should read the whole damn blurb.
Why is that? I don’t know that company or the context for it, so it seems pretty innocuous. What am I missing?
I am a bit in the middle here. I go to really fancy restaurants now and then either for work (Jean-Georges!) or on my own, and while I feel very comfortable around the food and drink side of things... the formality and etiquette is both very foreign and very off-putting to me. I never know what to do or what to wear,…
I assumed this was going to be some dumb hit piece, based on the URL, but it’s nothing of the sort. It’s a super long and interesting analysis of Obama’s foreign policy. Totally worth reading.
Which would be a reasonable price! And still not one I’d ever pay.
Ugh, that must have been so hard. How did you deal with it? Did you try to stop him from joining?
A religious ‘need’? How can there be such a thing? A religious desire, sure. But there are no religious needs.
Only if Phil Fish does it first.
Who is that? Is that Mary from 3rd Rock from the Sun?
