You see the trade-off between "having multiple consoles" and "less-shiny graphics" and choose "less-shiny graphics". Not all of us have tiny entertainment systems, however, and prefer our shit to play AND look nice, as opposed to just play nice.

The 360 had an external PS too, look at all the help that did. They also overclocked the XB1 to try to compete with the PS4, so even BIGGER chances of overheating issues.
