I agree. I don’t even know how to feel about this article. His statement is just... nothing? And it almost seems sadistic to have tracked him down? (Not to him, but to... everyone else?) At this point, nothing from him is going to be remotely helpful to anyone, so I don’t even understand why someone would go find him

I really enjoyed Writers and Lovers, but did you really read it? Or even the summary of it on Amazon? It’s set in 1997, and the women is 31 years old. Not 20's, not mid-2000s.

I looked up my abuser and stupidly sent him a message about how I hoped his daughters were safe from people like him and some other shit I should have probably just left alone.
As you can tell, I can have a little bit of a hair-trigger response!

I sent this in earlier through the tip email because I didn’t want Barnett to have the last word. Also, as a rape survivor, I wanted to talk about it and figure out why this hurt so much. When I think of all the trauma we’ve all been through this year, it’s places like this that help me see that I’m not alone in a

I subscribe to the print edition, as everyone should! Incredible stuff; I’d recommend as something of a deep cut this oddly riveting 17-year-old story the famed true crime writer Pamala Coloff wrote about lipstick, of all fucking things. https://www.texasmonthly.com/articles/lip-shtick/

I don’t know any of the people involved, but my guess is these women might rest easier in peace if we all got a little more outraged at a system that allows this person get a four-month prison sentence (“rough” or otherwise) and now have to cope with some sadness.

To each his own.  I want to make stories like this not

This headline is misleading. It was too cold-as-balls, not in fact “not cold...enough.”

Florida went for Trump so as far as I’m concerned they can keep him. Permanently.

As someone who doesn’t support Boy Mom, I cannot support Girl Dad. But also I acknowledge that dads show their pride in their children in very strange ways so this sweatshirt checks out. My dad has t shirts from my undergrad and grad school that he has worn out. He has more school gear than I do. But (and I’m biased

And the thing is, it’s not as if you can’t get married at the courthouse now, masked, and then have a bang-up wedding reception next year. You can still dress up fancy, have that first dance, eat cake, etc. You can even do a wedding ceremony/vow renewal. No one will care a bit that it’s happening well after the actual

You’re right. Great kicker, but the final line in that story is a gut punch that perfectly encapsulates why I’ve lost so much faith in Americans, for sure, and maybe humanity (for context, the photographer wasn’t told anyone had tested positive, and has asthma and 3 kids):

Also, the podcast Tom Brown’s Body (produced by Texas Monthly and narrated by Skip Hollingsworth) is absolutely fascinating and similarly well done. I just wish they’d gone deeper into the small town dynamics.

If anyone hasn’t yet heard of Texas Monthly, it is hands-down one of the best sources for fascinating longform stories. They’re written incredibly well, to the point where I find myself clicking on stories that I normally don’t care about at all and am entirely sucked in. Some personal favorites in case you have some

The people attending these weddings...family members or not...are just as much to blame, IMO. And I hate to say this but I’ve attended a lot of weddings in my long life and have yet to meet a groom who would not have preferred to elope...just saying. Am sure it is not a hard rule, especially in the era of selfies etc..

I know everyone likes to picture 45 going to prison like Angola or Rikers. But if it happens at all, it will be the country club type prison where he’ll be treated like a fucking celebrity, because well, he is.

He’s not allowed to live there, and yet he used it on his voter registration.  I guess he’s right that there is rampant voter fraud going on at the highest levels of government.

And competent lawyers!

I just really want him to be forced to live strictly on the presidential pension. He’d be dead in a matter of weeks.

He’ll have to go up against actual billionaires who have all the time and resources in the world to fight this in court.

I am sure jail will take him.
