There are other ways to get exotics. It isn't as if this is your only option. You can't seriously expect them to just hand the hardest weapons in the game over to you without some challenge.

I feel the same way but I think that the reward justifies them asking you to play through crucible. There is one weapon bounty that doesn't require any crucible play but the majority of them require some time in crucible. There are some that do not have negative effects from dying so I would suggest going after those.
