I don’t think it is likely, but if the goal is like say 85+% and they sneakily get it to like 80% that should not effect the sales that much because an 80% is STILL a good score.

Sometimes people do things for the wrong reason on purpose, so I think being able to try to understand actions from many angles is important.

That’s why I would lean towards they don’t trust people not to leak stuff.
I mean, I guess it could be that they are okay with sucking up meta critic score loss on purpose as to not pay bonuses while also avoiding as many pre-order cancellations as possible by keeping the reciews bottled up til the last minute.
