I saw the your posts and your argument is flimsy. Four month difference isn't a big deal and it was a shitty series until GTA3 on the PS2.
You're fooling yourself if you think it was popular the way it is now before the release of GTA3. Or was it III? I don't remember, but the statement was made in line with the thinking that the PlayStation 2 made that franchise and it was a major reason people bought the PS2.
