.......And gay people should pretend to be straight and black people should bleach their skin white and everyone should just be NORMAL according to your standards so that you can be comfortable and happy.........

If anyone really believed that Jews can't be terrorists, Baruch Goldstein would like to have a word with you.

Yup, you're a jerk.

And your lack of critical reading skills is astounding. I think I've made it pretty damn clear that I think it's a great idea primarily because I think it will make kids better informed on a global scale.

I don't think teaching religion in a class going to be some sort of silver bullet to all the worlds ills, let alone bullying. But I certainly think not being completely ignorant of major forces behind the lives of billions of people and countries (not to mention arts and literature) etc worldwide makes for a

Well, I'm not a teacher.

Really? Shakespeare, Hemingway, et al. basically teaches us that white men, and only white men, are extraordinary writers, considering that they are part of Western canon and quite often are the only source of literature taught in schools. It teaches that the "white" voice is the only valid literal voice to consider.

Oh my god. It is 100% relevant to teach about the religions that have shaped the world. It is social science. It is not indoctrination to just learn about something - about its characteristics and existence.

I'm an atheist but I also think teaching world religion is important bc it gives people a better *perspective* on how other cultures think and live. More perspective=less ignorance. Less ignorance=what school is supposed to be all about. Teaching about different religions is not the same as indoctrinating people into

But calling them silly ass fairy tales is deliberately inflammatory and is going to alienate anyone who believes in any particular religious teaching. We live in a world where a majority of people subscribe to some religious belief. Learning about other people's beliefs is learning about other people, period, not

Based on the rest of your comment, you definitely should not teach said class.

I think this issue is not just limited to religion, this is an issue of racialization. People often speak of "other" religions and their practices in very racially coded language. I think there should also be a mandatory anti-racism class, taught by POC, each and every single year of the school curriculum.

A former coworker is a Sikh who wears a turban. He was at an anti-poverty protest once, when a woman with a Central European accent came up to him and after chatting a bit started asking about his turban. After he explained that he was Sikh, she said "No offense, but you look like a terrorist."

Without missing a beat

Water is wet.

This is bullshit and she didn't demand anything, she simply asked to have these perks considered.

She asked for multiple things, sure, but she also both justified some of them, and noted that some would be more difficult than others. And these weren't demands, they were asks. By ending by asking what they thought, she made it quite clear she wasn't demanding them.

Ugh, the studio excuse is all sort of wrong. Do we really need a remake of this racist ass film? Are they seriously name dropping Lupita? See how she's being tokenized and fetishized. It doesn't matter if they went on an international/multicultural/diversity/whatever casting search, they ended up with a bunch of

No worries! There's nothing wrong with asking. I think it's good to have a dialogue on individual experiences. It's not always the same for everyone, but I also don't live in a bubble where I've had nothing but positive encounters with police or people of authority.

Also from my understanding the sex positive movement, at least based on my reading of The Ethical Slut, has nothing against people who don't want to have sex

I had to reteach myself not to allow other people's ideas about sexuality to dictate my sex life.
