I usually agree with what you say, but to say there is no rule of law in KPK isn't the case. There are areas of KPK that have been autonomous traditionally but they've had their own laws/codes. The Pashtun people have some strict codes which they take very seriously (which have their pros and cons).

Yeah...um...that's already banned. They're called laws. Shockingly, Pakistan does have laws, because, and this will be really shocking, Pakistani people don't approve of murder. And based on those laws arrests were made in connection with the attempt on her life.

Not to mention, she didn't twerk. With all the twerking being talked about in the media it's surprising that so many people still don't know what twerking is.

Driving drunk is illegal for a very serious reason. Because he could have KILLED someone! That's total disregard for human life. Not just being an asshole. It's a similar mentality (not the same for sure and Brown, like Sean Penn and Charlie Sheen too *ehem* are indeed scum).

No celebrations or commemorations of people like MLK and Mandela would be better than empty celebrations and commemorations. This happened with Mandela died and it happens today. No one actually knows what these individuals stood for and what their politics really were. These individuals were strong supporters of

This is until 2005. Post 2005 (post Harper) Canada's environmental record is appalling. I'm guessing a lot may have changed since then. Let's not get too excited.

That's not what she was talking about. Read up thread. She was talking about the hundreds or thousands of Indian guys she spoke with on Yahoo chat who apparently told her how things were in India. She wasn't talking about Indian guys approaching her on dating sites.

Oh sorry. I forgot. Some non-South Asian person who has had contact with "thousands" of Indian men online would know waaaaaaaayyyyy more about South Asians and our cultures than we would. Of course!! Why didn't I know that?

Yes, because "hundreds" of "Indian men" on Yahoo chat is SUCH a credible source.

Jezebel commentors are not known for their understanding of cultural nuance. They can be pretty damn racist and xenophobic. It happens here again and again and again.

Whoever told you that was trying to mess with you and see how much they could fool a non-South Asian. There are differences between cultures, but those are not them! Incest is okay?? Wtf?? Sorry, but I'm South Asian and that is SO NOT TRUE!

Agreed. I have (Indian) curly hair and I'm very conscious of it in certain settings. I used to straighten it all the time, but have recently decided that I'm going to go all natural all of the time (almost - once in a while I still like to straighten). Less hassle too.

A few weeks ago I was watching a Canadian talk

I never stated that there aren't problems in India, nor did I state that one place is worse or better than the other. But the comment I was replying to basically implied that treating servants/domestic workers badly is an essential and inherent part of the Indian identity. THAT it is not.

I'm South Asian and I've never heard of this "bowl of uncooked rice" rule.

Are you fucking kidding me? You're talking like that is the norm. I'd like to see some stats on this. Where is your evidence that this is happening on a such a rampant level that you have the gall and arrogance to talk about it as if it's the norm? And you think that stuff isn't happening in the US? Or Canada? Or

Thank you for sharing. As someone with a unique nose I appreciate it :)

Even if that was her intent (which I highly doubt) it's not her place to appropriate the oppression of Black people for a teachable moment.

This is a great pre-cancellation critique which explains that well.

So her reasoning was let's give money to this problematic location while we critique it? She couldn't have engaged in a critique of plantation tourism while NOT giving money to a place that glamourizes slavery? Actively choosing to NOT support a location is also part of critique.

Both American and Canadian historical educational sites are so whitewashed and depoliticized it's shocking. I come from a place in Canada that relies heavily on it's Victorian past for tourist attractions and dollars. There is lots of talk of all the white people who settled the land, but none of the Indigenous people
