Actually quite a few parts-bin components in the F1, especially around the interior but not used in ways that would detract from the car.

We’re only referring to the tail lamps and turn indicator lenses.
The side marker lens on US-spec versions will be amber in color with integrated reflector. We will also likely see a reflector integrated into the headlamp for visibility from directly in front - similar to the solution employed with the headlamps on the P1 and 650S.
Yeah - wherever did McLaren get that idea?
McLaren used a number of off-the-shelf switchgear bits in the F1 to reduce costs. The indicator and wiper stalks are also BMW parts. That mirror adjuster is a Vauxhall component. There were other bits borrowed from VW including the side mirrors from the Corrado. Costs to engineer and manufacture these pieces…
Replying to get your post out of Pending status. Great photos! :)
That's terrible news. How sure are you of this because my contact at McLaren made no mention of this and when the car recently appeared in their Geneva booth it was there for the remainder of the show?
One went into the collection of the Brunei Royal Family and remains there today.
The other went to a Japanese collector where it remained for most of its life. In recent years there has been speculation of it being passively for sale.
The Burgundy GT did not have the red interior that the GT prototype started out with. It was entirely different.
They’re actually not windows at all - the F1 GT has a solid carbon fiber engine cover to save weight. They just left the areas where there would have been glass bare when they painted it.
I had some advanced notice it would be appearing there.
Sadly I got that notice well after I made some business travel plans that had me in the New England area from 3/30 to 4/01 and unfortunately for me, I was not able to alter them for a stop in New York on my way to or from.
Yes, it will be there through the end of the show.

The color on 56XPGT was officially called “Silverstone Green”, but as with a lot of cars painted in this hue of what some will refer to as British Racing Green the paint will flip from dark green to teal under different lighting. In fact in some lighting this car almost looks black.
Take a look at pictures of the…
Probably a key factor in the Le Mans 24 Hour win.
No other F1 GTR had them and during the overnight stint in heavy rain JJ Lehto was able to turn in times that were :30 seconds per lap faster than anyone else.
My favorite as well!!! <3
Yes - that's the Reverse Lockout.
In order of appearance by chassis number...
01R (the '95 Le Mans winner) then McLaren's new P1 GTR, then 06R, 10R, 07R, 13R, 16R, 03R, 02R, 12R, 22R, 15R, 28R, 26R, 27R, 24R and finally 19R.
Next time walk a little slower. :D
They brought the F1 GT long tail road car prototype because of the link to the new 675LT, where "LT" equals "long tail". 😉
Last known location was in the Culiacan region, owned by a former drug lord who was murdered according to the legend. It continued that the keys had been lost, the car pushed into a barn and covered with a tarp. It was last seen more than 10 years ago and only two photos exist in the public domain - both of which can…
