Most of the cars seen in these shots are fakes. That P1 certainly is, the Agera appears to be and the Veyron SS is as well. I've not seen any closeups of the Lamborghini or the GTA Spano yet but it wouldn't surprise me if they were all mockups for the camera.
The standard Veyrons were limited to 231 mph without the top speed key inserted. Only then could you untap the additional 22 mph that got you to their original 253 mph speed record. It also makes changes to the ride height and wing positions in this mode, and all of that is reset if you hit the brakes or have to turn…
Or the rain got heavier in Brazil, because that happens you know...
Not a Hami fan by the way - in fact I'm enjoying the Jalopnik article quite a bit, but I don't think that Glock intentionally slowed to give Hamilton the Championship in 2008 either.
The production 918 uses traditional battery powered hybrid tech, not the flywheel based hybrid system found in their racers.
I'm aware the electric motor was integrated but that was not the only reason for recasting the block.
Horacio was an engineer at Lamborghini before starting Modena Design, so that could be another reason for his favor.
And his engine is borrowed from a Mercedes sedan - what's the point again?
The displacement of the P1s V8 is 3.8L, not 4.8L and while that matches the displacement of the V8 in the 12C, differences between the two engines were enough to require McLaren's engine supplier, Riccardo, to recast the block.
Also, the carbon Monocell that is the basis for the chassis in the 12C has also been…
As close as you will get for now.
McLaren's entry level car will be targeted at the 911 Turbo models and cost approximately $150K new.
It's hard to tell in this shot, but that one is actually dark green - similar to this one down front. The car back there is 'XP5', the 5th and final road car prototype that McLaren built before beginning production in 1993. It was also the car that was driven most on test drives and for marketing purposes. Later in…
True story, but he would remove the steering wheel so it was never going to go too far without someone towing it away.
Initially there were seven imported into the USA as 'Ameritech F1s' prior to the passage of the 'Show or Display' exemptions which made things much easiers. Mr Beal's car was one of those seven - in fact the one that had been in Road & Track magazine twice in 1997. He was apparently very generous with the car, and…
There is no GTR LM - it's proper name is just F1 LM. Yes, they were based on the GTR in the sense that it was developed as a road going version of the racing cars but they were not converted from GTRs and 'GTR' has never been a part of their official name, though it does appear inside the wreath on the wing end plate.
Tail lights aren't really 'from a truck'. They are utility tail lamps made by COBO in Italy which have been featured on several things including a BOVA coach (tour bus) but you'll also find them same exact units as the original taillamps on the Lamborghini Diablo.

Make friends with Ralph Lauren, Jay Leno, Peter Mullin, and Bruce Meyer and I think you've pretty much got most of it covered. Hope the LM drive works out for you Matt - that would be an epic journey for you to be able to take us on. :)
It was a minor off in testing that landed the car in the gravel trap with some tweaking to the Mercedes bodywork and likely very little damage to the rest of the car.
What occurred when AMG were finished their testing was that the McLaren was restored to its original state as a proper F1 GTR using the original tub,…
Thorough job with the article Máté - you'd make a great ghost writer for that book. ;)
Thanks for the sentiments, but there are also some folks within McLaren's Special Operations group who are equally interested in the history of these great cars, and their record keeping since the beginning has been far more comprehensive than my own. Another resource would be Lanzante Motorsports in the UK who look…
