I don’t find that particularly gross, but it is the behavior of a crazy person.

Coyotes can see you walking your “lunch” on a leash and try to snatch it out of your control. Don’t crouch down around a coyote - when we stand up tall, we are an opponent a coyote must acknowledge. 

Also, don’t listen to conventional wisdom about time of day, not letting them out alone, etc. When I lived in an area where there were a lot of coyotes, we were attacked twice, both times in the middle of a sunny day, both times while I was there and my dogs were near me. Both times, the coyote jumped onto a trail out…

Don’t let your cat roam around outside, period. The coyotes are performing a useful service by preventing cats from killing native birds and small mammals. Even if you think your cat is a lousy hunter, they are still an introduced, unnatural predator and their presence disrupts native wildlife.

Definitely keep them in unless you can keep your eye on them. I’m in a neighbourhood right on the edge of town, with green space behind. When the Coyotes are mulling about, we can hear them as though they’re just a few metres away. And they are not bothered by humans. I saw one saunter by when I was at my community…
