This is very common.. You must be located in a southern state, because it happens on most pickups I have even seen near the rust belt.. I think it has to do with condensation freezing and thawing.

I am constantly being asked why do they only come with Chrome bumpers?, when an STX (lower version) has body colored bumpers.. Ford obviously sees this, and has FINALLY given the customer the choice.
