Gaining a bit of weight is better than being miserable, dysfunctional, hospitalized and/or dead, right? And we all tend to gain weight as we get older, so people tend not to notice if you put some on.

One truism among former drinkers is: "if you think you have a drinking problem, you probably do." Just some food for thought.
I got into an internet argument with someone about security for computer programs. He mentioned a particular hacking program and said that any eight-year old could use it. I of course was full of "yeahrightbullshit." A few weeks later I look on my daughter's computer and there's the program: she'd been using it to…
If the CBT isn't working, maybe consider meds, at least for a limited time. Someone I know was being overwhelmed by OCD and started taking Prozac in conjunction with CBT. The results were almost immediate and dramatic. The plan is to wean away from it as the CBT training becomes effective. Good luck!
AA is a good choice, at least for a while, if you can't quit on your own. Depending on where you live, you may be able to find meetings without a lot of religion in them. I live in the San Francisco Bay area, and there's a couple of atheist meetings here (I got my start in sobriety at one). What is harder to avoid…
And so because you have a fucked-up dad, that's an indictment of an entire generation? Ohhhhhhhkayyyyyyyyy ...
OK yeah, perhaps I'm being a bit too obtuse. I meant to dryly state that the point of the article apparently went over your head. (BTW, give guys who like Tool a chance; they're not as bad as you think ... )
BTW, if you're thinking of trying Depakote, consider also its nickname among former users, "Depa-Bloat" ...
You must be pretty bad at Frisbee ...
The fact that this woman is publicly attacking her family over the Internet, because they apparently refuse to communicate to her for a reason she herself will not disclose.
Yup. That's right. The whole goddamn generation, lock stock and barrel.
What's the difference between now and the 1950s? (Using facts, not conclusory statements.)
You start with "we shouldn't be helicopter parents" but then you go on with a stream of generalizations which essentially make the opposite argument. Your question "what will they do if a thunderstorm or hail begins?" shows the extremism of your position: they get rained, or even hailed on. I had both when I was a…
I grew up in L.A.'s suburban San Fernando Valley in the 60s and 70s and had similar experiences insofar as independence. It was all soulless asphalt and not that neighborly, but kids generally could come and go to friends' houses, the park, the movies, etc. without parents or anyone else worrying that much. The…
Thanks, I am. Various drugs saved my life, but Lamictal really gave it back to me. Anyone who is spinning the anti-depressional pharma-wheel should at least consider it, though of course YMMV.
The history of Christianity is liberally splattered with the blood of many thousands of innocent lives. To take a couple of quotations from the Bible and conclude from them that "Christianity is all about love, life, forgiveness, and redemption" is beyond ignorance, it's just lame propagandizing.
I've been where you are; it's awful. Please try a different med or meds and/or change your doctor. There's a lot of people here to lean on for support and advice. You can do it!
Effexor was worse than useless for me, but as you can see by reading this thread "YMMV" is about the only certainty regarding effects of various SSRIs, NSRIs, and etc. on people. I didn't have any withdrawal symptoms, but that's probably because I quit after just a week or two because I literally could not focus on a…
S'cool; I'll be down at that range next week with my Glock and photos of Florida police officers. I'm sure no one will mind.
Is there a reason you're being a flaming a**shole?
