It is SO GOOD!  I’d love to hear what you think if you eventually see it and reply on this thread :)

I had been wanting to see Promising Young Woman since the first time I heard about it, and in my view it’s Oscar-worthy. The movie was designed to make the viewer uncomfortable in every aspect, including the way Mulligan’s character is dressed and made up, and the reviewer completely missed that.

I agree. I’ve never understood why the public should have to subsidize stadiums. They literally house games for grown men. How is that important compared to educating our youth or the myriad of other things that we actually really need to do?

My best friend has been quarantined by herself since the beginning with very little contact with the outside world and she said she felt like she was starting to crack. So I told her that we could get together in person, something I have literally never done except with my mom whom I am staying with. I arrived and she

One of my dear friends said she would hang her American flag, finally.  And I totally agree with that sentiment--we witnessed real patriotism vs. cosplay.

This is so insightful and beautifully written—thank you! Another article I was impressed by was this one entitled, “Democracy is a Threat to White Supremacy”: https://www.fordfoundation.org/just-matters/equals-change-blog/posts/democracy-is-a-threat-to-white-supremacy-and-that-is-the-cause-of-america-s-crisis/ . I

This is 100% correct and beautifully stated.  These people worked really hard on their outfits.  Makeup was applied!

Thank you, I read the article this morning.  It seems that that two fundamentally terrible people found each other and are now even more terrible together.

One thing I’m hoping that comes out of these demographic shifts, is that wealthy US cities become more affordable and depressed areas of the country start to recover.  I think this would help our red state/blue state divide and people won’t have to leave homes to get jobs as much.  Surely there will always be a place

I hope shops reopen, but I miss that part too. It brought artists and different kinds of people. I moved here almost 25 years ago, and it was getting expensive by then, but for a good while now practically the whole of Manhattan and many parts of the commutable boroughs have been unaffordable unless you work in tech

Congratulations!!!

It’s so weird that some people feel the need to announce their leaving. I wish them good fortune, but don’t have much use for their opinions on the future of cities. Also, it is fabulous to be able to negotiate my Manhattan rent for a change.

I prefer to believe that this baby was created in a test tube. It still seems very unlikely to me that Stephen Miller has any kind of sex with other humans.

Out of all of the explanations I’ve seen, this rings truest for me.  You’re right, his whole like seems to be about cruelty, both doling it out and probably receiving it too.

I agree, but this just seems like it would be so unpleasant for a racist.  He spends all of his time thinking about the thing he hates most.

Does anyone have a guess at what is wrong with Stephen Miller? It’s obvious that he is a terrible person, but is there a pathology that would explain his bizarre obsession with immigration and the cruelty he reacts with?

Sure.  I mean, my magazine rack is next to my bed, but whose isn’t?

I’m a subscriber to Firemen Running Up Stairs and Sweating, but I do enjoy both of those publications when I pick them up at Pathmark.

Isn’t that weird how you can interact with someone 30 years later and they are still an asshole in the exact same way? Like, whiner in 2nd grade, whiner now.

I’m too tired to write down all of the reasons I find this article off-the-mark and, frankly, insulting. So, I’ll just say this. Anger is a natural reaction to boundary trespass. It is HUGE that women are now being able to express anger in public—it’s a powerful force that can change things. Are there individuals and
