I’m sure that seeing the production side must be very different than what most of us know. And frankly, I don’t have a horse in this race, but there is a reason for the stereotype of the wine snob and why people tend to dislike them.

It’s really about people who don’t want to pay for checked bags making sure they can get overhead compartment bin space. Not my priority either but some people care a lot.

I don’t doubt that more careful production processes result in higher costs and finally a more expensive final product, but overall, the class and marketing elements are enormous factors in the same way they are with women’s cosmetics or fashion. It’s an industry largely built on puffery, which is no big deal as lots

Back in the day I went to a lecture given by the wine expert at what was then the most prestigious art auction house in the world. This dude was used to auctioning wines that sold for millions, and he stood up in front of the crowd and said that vintage doesn’t matter, drink what you like, the rest is just markers of

Rock on! And I bet he feels just as lucky to have met you.

People reap what they sow and there are no shortcuts to something amazing. You’ll see people all around you prioritizing money or stability over true adventurous companionship and later you’ll see these same people miserable, divorcing and bored out of their skulls. It’s worth working on yourself and waiting until

You can really tell when college is out for the summer on Gawker.

You’re right, I was responding to Virgina in VA’s many other posts where ‘she’ subtly blames women for everything and extrapolated back. I don’t believe ‘she’ is acting in good faith or honestly. In other words, ‘she’ is trolling.

Me too!

My point was that telling women that they shouldn’t lead men on is hardly most cutting edge of advice, and it was presented disingenuously as even-handed and not intended to specifically target women, even though the writer is a most certainly a troll and was doing just that. If you’re sincerely concerned about not

As I said before, Good trolling but bad humanity.

Trolly troll troll troll. Whoops, I mean you’re totally, 100% a lady with a true woman’s perspective (as you mention elsewhere in your many posts), it’s just that you’re a cool girl and totally get dudes and why they do stuff, not like all of those other bad women who are responsible for all of the badness of

Virgina in VA and Indru are just having a fun troll conversation with each other. Don’t worry JB, these dudes are relatively easy to avoid in real life. Just sit next to me ;)

The only women I know who do any of the things you mentioned are power-tripping jerks under a certain age, because after about 26, most people see through that kind of BS. The vast majority of women just want someone who turns them on and also knows how to return a text, make plans proactively and respect their time.

Patrick: Did you not consider this issue before or during the writing of the article? Because this counterpoint to your advice is widely available in any even minimally feminist space and the article is lacking without it. Captain Awkward would be a great place to start.

This is terrible advice on quantum levels. You’ve dressed it up nicely but ‘You must have lead him on’ is an adage as old and misogynist as they come. Of course, people should not use other people, but making that a gendered issue is totally disingenuous. You might just as easily write, ‘men should not expect to buy

I’ve said this elsewhere but the reason women tend not to do this 1) society asks us to take care of men’s feelings and 2) Some do not respond well to a straight up ‘no thanks’, and the consequences for misjudging can be very harsh indeed.

Actually, women are trained not to be direct because 1) society expects us always to cater to men’s feelings and 2) every woman on the planet has an experience of a man reacting badly (and scarily) when she has had to tell him no on something or other. ‘Sentimental and artistic’ has nothing to do with it.

I love Emma Stone, but I wish she had better taste sometimes. Two Woody Allen movies and now this.

You're exactly right. Christopher should be on the list.
