For all of you hormonal teen-brained folks who ignored English class and phonics, it's pronounced KOOM.

She's just someone I spotted in the audience of a TED talk video. In my opinion her reaction and laughter was excessive (in comparison the reaction of the rest of the audience) who just chuckled.

There is an overwhelming push from bloggers, bureaucrats, and blatherers to get people out of their cars. The problem is that a lot of these opinions on the environment and how we "should" be living in it come from people who live and work in major cities and are disconnected from the multiple congruous realities that

I can't be the only one who is tired of these sweeping pseudo-organic pale-colored designs getting cranked out by every major architectural firm. It's an architectural meme which serves no purpose other than to stand out strikingly against all other buildings in the vicinity, and "appear to be part of the environment"

I made a Lego model...20 years ago (oh my) with the concept that it had a separate engine for each of the four wheels. It was a scale model of a giant land vehicle for an imaginary alien civilization that had never had the desire to fly because there were no native flying species by which to be inspired.

With modern alloys, engineering, and manufacturing insights, designs like this should be revisited for feasibility.

This oldie has always been a favorite of mine:

In a reprint of one of EC comics issues of Weird Science, there was a one-page short story about a war in which the enemy aircraft were powered by rubber bands. I believe the craft were able to evade detection because they were light-weight and quiet.

So...perhaps the decrease in ice and breakup of ice sheets is being caused by natural forces? Don't try to tell me that a seismically active region can't break ice sheets, and don't try to tell me that an active volcano and its likely widespread vent system doesn't exhaust lots of heat.

The point is that there is a moral and ethical standard to which they should be held, because they hold the lives and well-being of people in their hands. At some point the entirety of that oath was binding. Swearing an oath used to actually mean something. There were reasons for those "restrictive, ancient vows",
