I agree with you completely. I very much think that Indy is safer than before. the SAFER barriers are evidence of this. The changes after Wheldon’s accident are evidence of this. It’s a dangerous sport, but there’s no reason to shut it down. Unfortunately these incidents are nothing new.
Aside from being a spec series today, Indycar has always been the way you describe it. Try to go as fast as possible without crashing; that’s racing, it’s dangerous. Look at the fatalities in the past, they go way beyond just our modern era. There is nothing that makes these cars or this series uniquely more…
