Actually that was the video resolution they used. For some reason they had to make it blurry, it isn't that blurry on my monitor haha.

As a kid, I was never really good at platformers. This sort of thing happened to me a lot, but I got over it and got better. I don't believe "it's too hard, I die too much" really makes up for a good article. The writer needs to buck up, as I'm sure most of us don't want games giving us a leash anymore.
