I’ve had the original anime on DVD for years now & never picked up on Batou’s car being a Lotus until you pointed it out, especially since the car he drives in the Stand Alone Complex anime (I’m trying to find a picture of it) is arguably a similarly cyberpunk-retrofitted Stratos

Believe that’s only the 3rd time I’ve ever seen a paddock/pit road completely empty itself to salute a driver. When Dale Earnhardt Sr. finally won the Daytona 500, when V8 Supercars driver Greg Murphy clocked his “Lap of the Gods” during final Shootout qualifying for the Bathurst 1000, and now as Felipe Massa walked

As a closet Fiero fan, this makes me happy

Courtney, right, my bad. Only just recently started getting back into watching drag racing, aaaaand had the race on while I was doing something else

He retired from the event after they got the car back to the pits. They showed it on TV: bottom tubes in the chassis were massively bent. NHRA doesn’t allow teams to pull out a backup car once final eliminations have started, so that was the end of his day.

Meh, I’d probably drop a few bucks in one. It’s not like the old Cruis’n machines weren’t cheesy as all hell either.

Massive NASCAR wreck at superspeedway.

Whatever happened to those mezzanine trucks? Rick D Johnson ran one and I think there was a second that raced for a couple years & did pretty good IIRC, but then I never saw them again

I’m sure they did, especially if this was recorded for a suspension test. Most desertracing sanctioning bodies enforce strict rules about leaving tires behind on course, and if this was a testing video there’s no reason they wouldn’t go back for it.

This is the Plaster City OHV area, and this particular section running alongside the Evan Hewes (sp?) Highway is a well known favorite trail for suspension testing. The road sees extremely minimal use, usually only trucks entering and exiting the cement plant. TBH this video probably shows more traffic on the highway

Now I’m not going to say I’m super-current with the music biz & particularly not when it comes to rap/hip hop, etc. Matter of fact I barely even listen to the radio at all anymore now that I live only a few blocks from where I work.

  • Women, especially millennial women, are most willing to switch from a new car to a used car for practical needs.

My ‘98 Chevy S10 and my Old Man’s 2004-ish (might be earlier...really old photo and he’s long since sold the truck, I forget) GMC Sierra. Different cab loadouts so you’ll have to use a bit of imagination, but my Dime’s clearly a tinkertoy next to a fullsize 2WD of roughly the same time period. Which made total sense

Some nitro offroad R/C cars & R/C acrobatic airplanes use what’s referred to as a “clunk tank”. Instead of the pickup being fixed in one part of the tank, it’s on a flexible hose that ends with a weight (or the fuel filter). When the vehicle gets upside down and all the fuel moves to the top of the tank, ~clunk~, the

I worry about you sometimes, Torch. We all do.

I mean, I have ADD, and after watching through FLCL almost half a dozen times I’m still not sure I was able to keep up with all of it

And then there’s Erzberg, the only race of any kind I know of that’s organized by a man whose life goal is to design a race that nobody can finish.

It’s illegal to have an automotive hobby in the midwest, I’m just going to call that now. If the local government & your dipshit neighbors don’t ruin your life, the weather & road salt that comes with it for 2/3 of the year will.

Speed and strength I can wrap my head around, what always blows my mind when I’m watching rally raid trucks is how quickly and sharply they can corner without even suggesting they’re about to roll over.
