I cannot help but think that positive vs negative portrayal should be taken into account when it comes to this sort of thing. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so long as one is not imitating in order to mock.

I mean, nobody is aware of every meme or will catch every reference. Even with a roomful of people, some things aren’t going to get caught.
