I've been hearing a lot of complaints about the quality of the first game. Was it really that bad?

I wish to dole out a couple of asswhippings after watching this.

I want to use that controller while playing any FPS with Knights of Cydonia, Sails of Charon and/or All Along The Watchtower being the soundtrack I have to play along to.
