When I said "Google Apps", I mean the App suite, which includes gmail. I have no problem investing, just that I'm the only person using it. If my needs grow, then yes, I would invest.

I fear that they will drop support for Google Apps Free Edition and force me to upgrade to a paid version. $50/year may not sound like much, but when it's just one user and it's offering the same services as a personal Google account, it actually doesn't help matters.

I personally use Google Docs and don't see a need to install an offline suite. But that's just me and my personal use. If you need more than basic formatting and some advanced features within spreadsheets and Powerpoint Presentations, it would be best to use Libre Office over Google Docs.
