Actually, Dewey decimals beginning with 813 and 823 are reserved for both American and British fiction, respectively. Library of Congress call numbers also have their own classifications (beginning with PS and PR, also respectively). Most libraries of course don't use these, but technically, it's there and it works.

Chemistry, even though it may still be slightly ahead of the curve, is definitely following the same trend as other disciplines.
