I hated Bridesmaids. It was mean and depressing and the bride was a bad friend and there was no resolution to that. I walked away from it feeling really depressed (I have a pretty overdeveloped sense of justice and empathy so I was probably destined to hate it). There were funny moments, I just thought they were…
best joke? ya, no...
All of them, yes! Goodness what has happened to fashion? Those suits are friggin perfect, yet the styles are pretty much abandoned. Instead, we have this.
Surely I'm not the only one who finds the Bieber belly button ring believable. (I almost wrote "beliebable" until I remembered that I didn't want to have to shoot myself after publishing my comment.)
50 would have a belly chain. Well played ladies.
HMMM IDK about this overall but Fiddy is selling it
Hated Bridesmaids. There was very little funny in it at all. I felt like everyone was just mean, shallow and self absorbed without being funny.
Seriously admiring these lovely pre-photoshop ladies! Nothing needs to be airbrushed, imagine that!!
I think the woman part comes in because women are generally seen as more willing to be doormats, and we're trained to be "yes women" and do anything to stay on good terms with superiors.
I don't think this needs to turn into an us vs. them of single women vs. married/mothering women. The point it that it's bullshit to assume that women without kids have no other important obligations. And it's bullshit to assume that a mother would be unwilling to put in extra hours for a project/promotion/something…
I don't like framing this as single women vs. moms. Not one bit. How about more flex-time options for everyone? How about less of a culture of overwork for everyone? I have definitely been in jobs where I felt this attitude from my employer: that young/unmarried/childless people were without a doubt required to…
But a married couple isn't buying a house or insurance in bulk. They are getting the same services/products that single people are.... just at a discount... with double the income of a single person.
Has anybody else noticed that on TV Melissa McCarthy plays sweet well intentioned people but in the movies she plays the crass over the top slob? Can you be type cast by medium?
Bullock is 48? Some people just win the genetic lottery.
I just like seeing some women who aren't in their 20s getting really good roles. Madame Internet tells me Bullock and McCarthy are 48 and 42, respectively.
I just wish that Melissa McCarthy played the tightly wound, well dressed character, and Sandra Bullock was the slob. Then we might actually be breaking new ground.
So... is this actually really fucking funny, or is it more like Bridesmaids "We must all find this really fucking funny because it is IMPORTANT for WOMEN" funny?
I doubt I'll see this but it's nice to see a Boston movie that's not about the Irish mob, Harvard or the Irish mob attending Harvard. ("Ben Affleck IS Prof. Whitey McGlynn in 'Crimson Mist.'")
LOVE this skirt!
