OMG THE BLIND ASSASSIN. nothing can ever dull my love of that book.

Also, you get them back by reading great books that they never will.

LOL that statistic is bullshit. WAY MORE than one adult in four has not cracked a book open in YEARS. People lie about how much they read, because they're embarrassed to say they can't fucking remember the last book they read or that it was in highschool. Think about how many people you personally know that never

I converted the spare bedroom into a library and people treat me like a mutant for owning 100s and 100s of books.

Well, I think maybe the biggest influence a children's book can have is not necessarily on one's worldview, but whether one decides to become a reader or not. I fondly remember reading a lot of Bill Peet picture books like:

Eh, I actually found it much MORE enthralling as a child than I do as an adult. It just seems more magical, I guess?

The reason children's books are more influential is because more people are able to understand them. People don't get subtext.

You've gotta read better grown up books! There are so many that have stayed with me for years and years. I won't be so presumptuous to just drop a bunch of recommendations on you. But if you want recommendations, I am totally your girl.

The Hobbit straight up is a children's book, but it's pretty common to first read LoTR around middle school.

I'm a reader and know so many people IRL who probably haven't read an actual book in years. People are missing out. I mean one of the hardest things for me to grapple with is that I won't have time to read every book worth reading before I die.

You realize at this point that the Venn diagram of "people online" and "people in real life" are pretty much the same circle, right?

I'd like to apologize to you for the fact that somehow we got to the point where you have to say you're married, have a child, and that you like penises. Its really messed up that your tag line has essentially had to become Jessica Valenti: Yes, she likes dick. I personally have no clue how to fix society and get the

Citation, please, on this "long-winded and hateful rant about how all acts of heterosexual sex are rape."

I've been reading Valenti for a decade now. I have never seen her claim that.

I *have* seen faked quotes attributed to her and pasted onto her photo.

Citation for Valenti going "on a long-winded and hateful rant about how all acts of heterosexual sex are rape."

I've been reading her stuff for a decade now. I have never seen that. And I think her husband would probably be surprised to know about it.

Do you have a link to where she wrote that all heterosexual sex is rape? My point in asking is that she has been the subject of a huge, targeted misinformation campaign involving things she's written (shown to be absolutely false). I would say that if you're going to bring up something she's written, just be sure to

Sandra Fluke also never said she wanted the government to pay for her birth control. She wanted the private insurance that she paid for and was required by Georgetown U for her to have to cover it. That didn't abate the flying asshole attacks on her one bit.

"Egalitarian" is MRAspeak for "Person who hates women and wants a cookie for it".

I watched this shitstorm on Twitter. (She's fearless when confronted with shit like this, btw.) Guys. SHE NEVER SAID 'I WANT FREE TAMPONS.' She only asked if people knew about any programs in other countries. Just asking that simple question provoked people to call her a cunt. Also, I highly recommend following

America, the land of people who are always sure they know better than everyone else, even professionals or people who have dedicated their whole life to studying a particular topic.

He sounds like Marvin Zindler, you Houston people know who I'm talking about.
