I see what you are saying. The sales numbers the first 2 years of FJ availability (chart below), it appears it would’ve been competition for the 2-door Wrangler (JK), but with sales dropping like a rock the following years - it certainly wasn’t.

I have absolutely nothing against the FJ, it was a cool and unique vehicle.
