Actually quite interesting that no Kotaku Author picked Starbound for their GOTY list. Or did I miss someone? Seeing as how everybody loves it - the game literally exploded on Steam (third most played game - it had more players when Team Fortress 2 one day, even) I'd think there will be more love for it from Kotaku.
