I think you are trying too hard to have an argument about sexism with someone whose first thought about bad-ass heroes was Sarah Conner ( See also, Ellen Ripley). I adore these characters.

We aren't talking about protagonist here, and I think this is what is getting to you. The question was Love Interest to Hero.

I mention this in a previous comment, but it's helpful to remember how the first film plays out. In it she's a waitress looking for a good guy, and doesn't show up right away. In fact, you don't see her until you've already established the conflict and who you think are the two protagonists of the film.

And yet this insight comes at the expense of not remembering the way the original film plays out. If you stopped the first film 25 minutes in and asked who the hero / love interest were, we wouldn't be having this argument.
