I think you guys are talking about two different measurements. @realinfmom eludes to sleeves, so I'm guessing she is measuring the case. She may have a smaller screen-size with a larger case. But yes when measuring screen-size you do usually measure diagonally.

Funny thing is if Apple did this it would be revolutionary and the best thing to come out in years, but when a company like Samsung does it its weird and pointless. I do think it is a weird concept now but maybe in a couple of years it might not be.
