Cauliflower ear is deformation of the cartilage in the ear usually caused by impact trauma. It doesn’t go away - once you have it, you have it. It looks more to me like racist wrestling officials mad that a ref got in trouble “because of a black kid”, taking revenge on the kid and his school.
My guess is, the dude’s buddies and sympathizers feel some type of way and figure they can save their guy by harassing this kid until they’ve made him into the bad guy. Additionally, if they can establish a pattern of violation, they can create a defense against the lawsuit.
