I too was a Wire-phile (though never to the point of your “good police” reference, which is pure genius) and the one takeaway that hit me harder than anything as McNulty is walking that bridge in the final scene is that people of color are so, so fucked in this country.

I think we also need to either re-defined what the police are expected to do, or accept the fact that we (and especially white people) think police do is very different from what they actually do.

I would say that it would be hard to argue with this article, but someone will of course. Even in my own life, the cops or wives of cops I know who claim to be the “good guys” have never once spoken out against any of these killings. Not one.
