This is cool. Substantive and (for the most part) civil discourse on the internet is like a four leaf clover. I regret the shade I threw at you earlier but I'm glad it led to us having this exchange... Let's do it again sometime.

You know what? Civility wins the day. I'm sorry I snapped, and thank you for acknowledging my comment without being reactionary, god knows you had a right to be. For whatever it's worth I'm a hetero white male, and while I don't like the label, I am very supportive of equal rights for women (ALL women)…
You know something's fucked up, when people in Gaza, an actual war-zone, are giving advice on how to deal with tear gas. To residents of a St. Louis suburb. Let that sink in for a second. Ferguson is now basically a war-zone.
The Internet is the one tool we have. Why do you think so many governments are desperate to regulate it? The internet definitely the only thing we have in these cases. Being this connected has advantages that no government could have predicted.
It's the citizens of Ferguson who are desperately attempting to get the world to see this bullshit who deserve kudos and lots more. They are facing threats of death, literally, for simply holding up cameras or tweeting or posting messages on forums.
You know there's been a lot of criticism of Kinja media lately and in turn, the role of blogger like platforms like this site. But here is where it holds its own and earns my respect. I am in Australia and following this with appalled, well . . . horror and incredulousness.
The best place I am getting my news from at…
The major news corporations handling of the events in Ferguson are actually an act of violence towards the American people.
Twitter is completely irreplaceable here. I hate it as a social media platform, but I don't think anyone can doubt its power as a force of news and awareness after tonight (or, you know, the Arab Spring). When I came back and heard what happened it was the only place I could read about it and see the images. CNN,…
Hey, you've been doing yeoman's work on this. Just helping out to fill in the blanks where I can.
Agreed. I recently had a conversation with a more conservatively inclined friend (she agrees that Roe v. Wade is a law that needs to exist, but she would rather the world be a happy place filled with bunnies and the only people being pregnant are the ones that want to be), and she made a frowny face when I said…
I usually go with "antichoicers", "anti-woman zealots", "forced-birthers", or "pro-fetus freaks". The only lives they're concerned with is that of the fetus.
That sounds too positive.
I absolutely refuse to call them prolife. They are not prolife. They are antichoice. Prochoicers are prolife, for the life of the woman. Now, in the recent articles I've seen about the Texas stats claiming the new antichoice laws that have closed so many clinics in Texas have resulted in over 9000 fewer abortions,…
And they aren't truly pro-life. They have zero interest in the baby's life, feeding, care, education, etc. I would also be interested in the stat of the anti-choicers that are pro-death penalty. "Life" is not their motive, imho.
YES THIS EXACTLY.
I've always called them Pro-Birth because that's the only thing they are concerned about. And this is hardly news. They've been tracking license plates since the scourge of Operation Rescue in the 80s.
Religion ruins everything.
May I recommend a onesie? It beats my Snuggie hands down.
The finest of all possible salads!
How can you be so right about watermelon, and so, so wrong about pineapple?
