Came here to say exactly this. Safety concerns should trump speed. Make the minimum stop time 1:00, since all the teams have to make 2 stops, every team loses exactly the same amount over the course of a race.

Lanesplitting is a terrific idea in it's concept form. Unfortunately, you get jerkoff riders trying to do 50 mph between cars, and asshat drivers trying not to let the riders through. It still doesn't help if you're the only one at a light!

That's really apples and oranges. Someone rear ends you at 20 mph in a car you'll have whiplash. You get run over on a bike at 20 mph, there's going to be some serious pain involved.

Full strike zone FTW! It's amazing how much faster games go when umpires call a wide zone. Between the strikeouts, non walks, and batters knowing most pitches will be strikes and therefore they swing more often, the games are largely faster.
