I didnt know much about this topic, and this discussion/thread/post has sparked my interest. I did a bit of digging on forums online, and it seems that the consensus is to always have 2 methods to start a fire on you and kindling.

Your right, about the ferrocerium. I was trying to differentiate the striker/rod to the wheel that is on the bic and I was not clear.

I've never ever seen a bic lighter give spark when wet, the flint doesnt work wet however the ferrocerium will work wet.

Your bic won't work wet, and requires fuel. Your bic will also get damaged and become inoperable if you fall and crack it letting the fuel out.

Two points to make-
