@onemoreday: Someone else mentioned Xubuntu being an option for customizing/simplifying an OS... have you tried that? I've never even used a machine running Ubuntu before, so im rather curious. I agree it would be useful for parents/grandparents

I don't understand why IE8 gets no love... I'm so happy i switched from firefox. the plug-ins are missed, but I really prefer how slim and barebones the top of the window is.

A pity, but easy to see why... I'd love to have a chance to get into some of those buildings to take pictures, stuff like that is a gold mine for amatuer photogs.
