I've made that argument several times in this thread actually its around here with numbers and such. Honestly most people dont really understand the business of video games and judge everything by feelings which is really bad.

In North America sales numbers of all multiplatform JRPG's with the exception of Final Fantasy (which can easly be explained by its historic attachment to Sony platforms) has basically been the exact same. In fact Star Ocean: The Last Hope sold 60,000 more units on the 360. Eternal Sonata sold the exact same on both…
Tales of games I've found in arguing my points this week in North America always hover between 200,000-300,000 this generation I believe it has something to do with the Anime style graphics stigma often attached to these games. Also they tend to review poorly in all but RPG and JRPG centric websites.
Actually the reason Graces F and the 3DS version of Tales of the Abyss came over was because new management took over the handling of Tales when Namco Bandai absorbed the Tales Studio (which was cause due to its insane debt load). With new management came a new outlook regarding sales figures and they decided to test…
Actually again if you knew the numbers you'd see your Tales of Symphonia a decade ago point is even more factually incorrect as its been said a few times around here but needs to be said again. Tales of Symphonia is the most popular Tales of game in the West.
I'd settle for Japanese with subtitles digital releases. I mean Atelier Totori Plus and now Memeru Plus titles are digital only. It'd save money on production and localization cost and time would be dropped considerably if it was just a script translation rather then full on voice acting.
It's just that this generation has shown that Tales of series sell best on the PS3 as Xillia and Vesperia PS3 were both huge sellers and Graces F sold more on the PS3 then Wii in Japan. So Namco has come to the conclusion at least for this generations development they'll stick with the PS3 and based on their actions…
The creator is an exec producer if memory serves. However I expect the straight forward approach to mean more prompts at the begining other then the fire walk tutorial of Dark Souls.
Also when I meanted minimalist approach I mean towards the sounds and video editing. I personally enjoyed the cavernous darkness or…
Namco Bandai is a revered company now... news to me.
Hideo Baba has stated that the PS3 is the premier system for Tales development. Basically since Xillia sold like hotcakes Tales of and the PS3 have been joined at the hip. I am not surprised its a PS3 release.
Great post I've been arguing these points on different threads.
I'm apprehensive but I'll give the benefit of the doubt to the series creator and producer who basically said we're not changing much drastically it'll just be more polished but the same product. I hope though they dont change the tone of the game though the minimalist approach they took with the first two games is…
LOL! Do you know what you're talking about? Vesperia was released summer 2008... hardly a decade ago...
This is the sales for all recent Tales of releases in North America:
Tales of Vesperia (Xbox 360 - Aug 2008) 280,000
Tales of Sympohnia: Dawn of the New World (Wii - Nov 2008) 200,000
Tales of Graces F (PS3 - March…
It's been confirmed to be sales based on multiple occasions. During the marketing for Tales of Graces F and Tales of the Abyss 3D last year Hideo Baba basically said straight up we're up in the air on brining more Tales games to North America so we need to meet expectations. It's pretty simple really Vesperia didn't…
Actually what leads to Tales of games not coming over here is lack of sales (or more accurately not meeting the insaly high expectations Namco used to have for the series)... Vesperia didn't meet sales expectations and for the next four years we didn't get a mothership title from Tales. Seriously learn your facts or…
Actually its not the games are very niche. Although the Tales fanbase is very loyal. The issue Vesperia had was Namco thought it would sell at a level equivilent to a Final Fantasy and was disappointed when it didn't happen. However with new management over at Namco they've come to the realize the titles may be…
The Vita is region free like the PS3.
That is EXACTLY the reason Hideo Baba has said the Vita isn't strong enough in North America to warrent the localization costs. Shame really they look great.
I may try the import route for Tales of Innocence R and see if I can get passed the language issues as my Japanese is not the best.
I also forgot to mention that Microsoft helped a lot with the financing of development and localization of Vesperia. Sony didn't want to put up the cash to get Vesperia here in North America.
Ya I knew that already. The Vita is doing well enough in Japan since the price cut to warent the games being made but not good enough in NA to warent localization. Sad but have to deal with it. Even Atlus isn't supporting it as much as they are with the 3DS.
