There are probably a lot of non racists that didn’t want to see Gillum, a progressive and out loud socialist who also happens to be African-American, in office. They were turned off primarily by his ideas because they didn’t understand them. That doesn’t make them racist. Bernie is correct.

This is where I draw a distinction between prejudice and racism.

This is flat wrong and pretty damn offensive. White people who do not want to vote for a candidate because that candidate is black are racist. There’s no other way to explain that.
