Her story is compelling, as long as you only read her account of it.  Google her name and read the reports from the school and what she is actually accused of.  It’s way more than just her ex put some photos on a laptop.  The text messages between her and at least 2 of her lovers refer to sexual acts while at school.

GMG has a union, though. One that most likely protected them quite a bit during the Gawker implosion. I would suspect the recent voluntary buyouts were due to the union applying pressure, and would not have been achieved on their own. Though I don’t have any direct knowledge of the situation.
