The only thing that makes me doubt their "hacker" status is the fact that they want the video to be removed from the internet. Is it possible to remove it once it's out there unless it was only in one place?

Actually I set up media streaming from a client's PC to his Samsung television that has DLNA with only 1 tool: Enable media sharing. Beyond that it was a piece of cake. That eliminates the need for any boxes or anything else in the middle.

Some mobile devices have trouble when set to WPA/WPA2 security mode. Setting only to WPA2(if possible) tends to fix them, but if not then the device just sucks at staying connected.

It mainly depends on your streaming habits, most mobile sites have particular resolutions for videos, and probably have preferences to assure you only view at the bitrate you want. Otherwise there are more intense media (video/music not so much) that you should avoid while not on Wifi.

Because why would they offer a product that competes with their iPad, they'd lose sales that way and probably lose overall sales in apps from people buying said iPads.

What features are you talking about? If I flashed my phones I got more features than I was expecting... FM Radio, improved bluetooth stacks, etc.
