Feminism is not toxic in the mainstream media? That is a matter for a whole other discussion. Maybe on Jezebel, but there are still perceptions in the popular media the feminist movement is populated by over-bearing, man-hating women which plaid shirts and brushcuts. In fact Jezebel articles have been known to

WHOA.. Wait a minute. The exact same thing can be said of feminism. There is absolutely no denying there are equally toxic factions of feminism. However, you guys are great lobbyists and they tend to hold senior positions in Women's Studies departments. Mary Daly comes to mind. Her literature is a first-year staple

yes! It hurts my heart that there are legitimate issues like the need for more men's domestic violence shelter, but the need gets lost in all this pitiful, gender-war, anti-feminist, MRA bullshit. We need more men and women advocating for all victims, and we need to disassociate that advocacy from the MRA folks

Feminists are quick to point out they are not a homogenous group and should not be clumped together as one. I am involved in the MRM, but I don't subscribe to the vast majority of the rhetoric by AVFM. Rather I work with people with a sense of fairness and logic to push for more awareness about barriers facing boys

Why is it ok to have women's rights groups but not men's rights groups? Aren't you ladies all about that like 'equality' stuff?

I actually agree that feminism has truly dropped the ball on domestic violence by trying to define it as something that only victimizes women. I see no reason to define one form of domestic violence as horrible and the other as "who cares it's just men".

Feminism is trendy!

by acknowledging that she wasn't actually the first programmer?

i never understood where that statistic came from. i only know one person who was raped. 1 in 5 just seems way too high.

Is it ok that I hate this video?

depends on the day. In between the complaining mommy blogs and Pinterest lies your average mom I'd say. I think the anti-perfection backlash, while entertaining sometimes, has gotten overblown and stale for the most part.

God forbid you're childfree and say anything about being tired or busy around a sanctimommy. Prepare for 20 minutes of self-pity and being told you can't be tired or busy because you don't have kids.

No, they just love feeling like a martyr for a choice they made.

I don't know anyone who does, unless they had a baby like a month before, but the mom bloggers are really into wallowing. I do know people who mostly wear workout clothes and a ponytail, but I would too if I didn't have to go to work. So maybe not pulled together outfits. But stains, no. And what's with the "so

Is being a mom really as much of a disaster as the mom-bloggers make it out to be? Like do people actually leave the house wearing pajamas and a shirt covered in milk and food stains? This seems to reinforce the idea that once a woman has kids all her personal hygiene and dignity goes out the window. Am I reading too

My brother just retired from the police, he was a cop in both DC and NM. He is gay and did have some issues mostly within his own division. While not feminine and I cant speak for trans, I do know that he is was one of many gay/lesbian cops/firefighters he worked with and its becoming more mainstream as we speak.

Nepotism? Hello?!!!! Firefighters take civil service exams up through Deputy Chief. You don't pass the test, and score high, you don't get the position. Simple as that. There is no..."Let me call Louie, to make me a Firefighter". Now, there are cases of..."Let me call a lawyer to make me a Firefighter,

The last place I worked we had 1000 people in the shop and not a one was a woman. It was shit hideous physical labour. None of the women who did try had the stamina to make it through the week. A few days sure, but after a few years and high turnover none of the women made it. I'm guessing that's what's happening with

Ah, name calling. Quite interesting. It is quite possible to find both ability and diversity. And it should be found. The woman in the story has both. She is fit to kick down a door and rescue as needed, and she qualified for the job. But your article also references 41 women and 10,000 men as a mark of shame on

"It's certainly true that in a diverse city, having a major agency and community force like the fire department which is almost entirely male, cisgender, straight, and white often does not inspire confidence."
