The Interstate dips to the South (coming from the West) to get to New Orleans which is South of Lake Pontchartrain, it then proceeds to go back North East to get to Mississippi which is a good 50-100 miles North East of New Orleans. I-10 Makes a big southern dip on it's East-West jaunt to get to New Orleans.
